    Entry #65- Plans for Future Class Balances

    Greetings, Maplers!


    It seems like we've come to rely on Inkwell's Diary a lot these days ^^;
    From here on out we will try to settle your worries~ Please take a look at what our development team has been working on.


    Today we will begin speaking to you about our plans from now on in terms of balances between jobs (class revamps).


    First of all, we will reveal what we hope to achieve just as we did during last summer's RED update. It's usual for balancing to be completed within 1~2 patches, and, if not,data will be continuously collected to correct the areas that need fixing quickly.


    Currently, there are 35 classes, around 16,000 equipable items, 3,000 different mobs, and 10,000 different maps. Because of the many different areas, monsters and NPC's inexistence, there are many potential 'play patterns' available already for Maplers to fall under.


    In order to please the largest amount of players, player data is continuously collected as a step to verify and build circumstances that can be analyzed integrally. It will probably be likely that we will be able to offer future class revamps more quickly because of our new systems of collecting data.


    Class revamps involve not only skills,but also changes in general game contents and systems. Future job balances won't involve just fixing old skills, but also adjusting the balance between attack and defense, the equip system, and keeping balance overall through adding new contents.


    Our planned skill balance that is gathering the most attention involves a shift away from damage being the only thing that matters in Maple.


    Our development period doesn't involve just checking damage outputs, but also damage and hit count, evasion while using the skill, potion use while using the skill, experienced acquired while using the skill, together with the utilization pattern of supportive skills [buffs], cool down—all aspects that you could think of.


    The results gleaned through our analysis methods and the opinions of our players in regards to the skill sets of classes, the experience curve, etc. are eventually reflected in the final game once testing is complete.


    Our development team knows that there is occasionally a difference in what players are looking for and what the development team is looking for in job revamps, but hopefully future revamps will come to satisfy both parties.


    In order to relieve this a little bit,we are preparing a system that will be able to directly measure the balance of various levels. Eventually there will be a plan to show it to all Maplers. Through this system, Maplers will not only be able to directly share their achievements, but our team will also be able to analyze the results of future class balances, resulting in balances reflected in a greater emphasis.


    Lastly, the change that has even more interest collected, is the reorganization of equipment enhancements.The test server will be updated within January. Since there are many effects that can be had on existing equipment, the testing will be conducted over a long period of time within the test server so that Maplers will be satisfied with the end result.

    TL;DR- There are plans for a revamp on the equipment enhancement system, and several integrated systems in Maple that will theoretically allow for faster class revamps.

    A lot of people on insoya are speculating a KMST patch this week regarding class balances. I guess this explains it, with the KMST term extended once more.

    Finally - not only damage will be a worthy stat to increase.
    There are many other games in which every stat REALLY has its' pros and cons - and every class requires other stats to have a certainly better feature than other classes.
    When only damage matters, no class is truly unique.
    Why aren't thieves weak as fuck but with truly fast or evasive?
    Why aren't warriors slower but got higher damage?
    Why aren't marksmen got low avoid but high-crits?
    Why aren't wizards really THAT squishy [aka glass cannons]? (using the magic guard, all you need to do really is get a lot of mesos for good mana potions - but it doesn't really change your gameplay)
    Classes in maplestory just don't feel like classes. Take that as an example: instead of being x, y, z - they're just all x, 1.5x, 2.2x, etc.
    Really hope that this update will do some good for this game..

    You make it sound like this so called balance will change anything at all
    There will be never, and I repeat never be balance in this game called Maplestory; especially after you blown all those MEE bullshit to the public.
    JUST LOOK AT THE "BALANCE" patch that just occurred a while ago, ALL OF THEM ARE DAMAGE INCREASES.
