Doing your job is apparently too hard

After being in college for 3 years, I realize how terrible people are with their work ethic.

I've seen this happen so much in my focus of theatre, Stage Management.

For Stage/Project Management class, I had a terrible member in my group who didn't do shit. Mind you, this member, her focus was on stage management as well. So why on earth, for something you want to have a career path, you'll slack off? I talked to her about it, she acknowledged she didn't do anything. She still didn't fix the issue. I gave her a second chance and told her to do a simple organizing assignment. She never did it.

For the Spring play I did, I had an incompetent stage manager (I was a assistant stage manager). The other assistant was the girl in my group. Of course, she didn't do shit either. She didn't show up to half the rehearsals, giving poor excuses. My stage manager didn't know to do half the things. As a stage manager, you're supposed to build a prompt book. She probably only did 20% of what completes it. The director, lightning designer, and programmer literally had to tell her how to do her job.

For the Summer play going on right now, she's the stage manager again. Not surprising enough, she still doesn't know how to do much. She never sent me a contact list of the cast - which I need considering she's not going to be in understudy rehearsals at Wednesdays (happens weekly). So I'm in charge of those. I never got Cc'd or forwarded the email notifying the understudies they have rehearsals on Wednesdays. I'm not going to be surprised if I show up today at the theatre with nobody there. BUT IF THEY DO, and somehow one cast member doesn't show up, how am I supposed to contact them? I don't have a contact sheet.
Additionally, she was to build a rehearsal schedule from beginning to end since Saturday. It's still not sent out. Why? Because she doesn't listen. The director and her have been emailing each other and back saying "you forgot this" "and that" "and this." Once again, the director is basically telling her how to do her job.

It just fascinates me that BOTH these people wish to turn stage management into a career and their half assing everything. That's not how it works.

Working as a group has been always a pain in the ass, you surely have more experience due to your age, but I feel the same, though in school. There is a really hard new subject specifically for my year (there wasn't for the past years) and of course my group was horrible, I didn't choose it, it was merely "random" by the teachers, only I did the work and one other guy helped, but not as much. Holding a work about Land Reform and social inequality by my own? I made miracles, and I still doubt I'll get a good grade, since my "teammates" didn't practice the presentation.
I don't know what to say, because mostly you know about those things, it doesn't even matter argue with them at such an age, I just hope that by the natural order they end being screwed, unless they change and people like us get some recognition. Hang on in there.

Well, as DJKofee mentioned, working as a group is definitely been a pain in the ass. It makes you suffer. But trust me, he or she one day will get what he or she deserves, not you. Hang on there tight! Miracles will come!

Group work. I always hated it too.Mainly because in the end I would be the one who would finish 80% of the work. Why? Their family is rich enough to let them to retake another year. And there are people like us, who have to work our ass off to enter a good school. They dont care. So I learnt not to care about whether they would do their job or not. And I am still waiting for tjem to fail rheir test. Just stay focused on what you are doing, as im the end all your hard work would be paid off. As for her........idk

I hate it even more when you do all the work and at the end they don't acknowledge how hard you worked on it.

In a group, there will always be one person that does all the hard work and a few other people that do nothing. This is how group work is. Maybe ask the person thats putting her in the position of stage manager to make you stage manager instead?

I feel your pain, I really do.
Last year, we needed to make a Science project for a competition.
And practically the whole prototype is made by me.
What about the others? They are playing basketball.
When we have meetings, I always have one dickhead who refuses to attend even one.
In the end, I got scolded by the teacher for not doing a good job.
I was so fucking pissed I was on the verge of a mental breakdown.
Like the whole thing was a team effort EXCEPT FOR ONE.
What did he do? He brought a laptop for us. Only.
    Nothing else.
No presentation, no model building, no nothing.
As a leader, I am responsible for my team members, but I can't tolerate these kind of dickheads.
And speaking of which, he didn't even participate in the model-building.
And when we're done, he comes, checks around and make criticism and pointless comments.
I was so fucking pissed, I wanted to hit him with a brick.
Too bad, he'd fuck me up.
He himself once volunteered to make the electronics and circuits.
And one month later, he said 'I forgot.'
    FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!
